GUIDED NZ RENTALS – VEHICLE USE & ROAD RESTRICTIONS POLICY
1. Authorised Use of Vehicle
Guided NZ rental vehicles may only be driven by drivers approved and listed in the rental agreement.
The vehicle must be used only for lawful road travel within New Zealand and in accordance with all New Zealand road rules.
2. Prohibited Use
The vehicle must NOT be used for:
• any illegal activity
• racing, drifting, or reckless driving
• driver training or testing
• pushing or towing another vehicle unless approved
• transporting hazardous or dangerous materials
• carrying loads exceeding vehicle limits
Any prohibited use automatically voids insurance and the renter becomes fully liable for all costs.
3. Off‑Road and Unsealed Road Restrictions
Unless explicitly approved, vehicles must not be driven:
• off-road
• on beaches
• through river crossings or floodwater
• on farm tracks or private access roads
Gravel or unsealed roads increase the risk of windscreen damage, tyre punctures, and loss of vehicle control. Drivers must reduce speed and exercise extreme caution when travelling on such surfaces.
Damage caused while driving in unsafe or unsuitable locations may not be covered by insurance.
4. Mountain and Alpine Roads (Queenstown Region)
Drivers must take extra care on mountain roads and alpine passes, including routes to ski fields or remote scenic areas.
During winter conditions:
• snow chains may be legally required
• road closures may occur without warning
• black ice may be present even in clear weather
Drivers must follow all NZ Transport Agency instructions, chain-control notices, and road closure warnings.
Failure to follow official safety instructions may void insurance cover.
5. Water and Flood Restrictions
Vehicles must NEVER be driven through:
• flooded roads
• deep water crossings
• streams or rivers
Water damage to engines or electrical systems is not covered by insurance and all repair or replacement costs will be charged to the renter.
6. Single-Lane Bridges and Rural Roads
New Zealand contains many single-lane bridges and narrow rural roads. Drivers must:
• follow posted give‑way rules
• reduce speed when approaching blind corners
• remain alert for livestock, cyclists, and tourist traffic
7. Overseas and Ferry Travel
Vehicles must not be taken outside New Zealand.
Transport by ferry between islands may require prior approval. The renter remains responsible for the vehicle at all times during ferry transport.
8. Commercial and Rideshare Use
Use of the vehicle for Uber, rideshare, delivery, or other commercial purposes is only permitted if Guided NZ Rentals has given written approval.
All commercial drivers remain fully responsible for fines, damage, and compliance with platform rules.
9. GPS Monitoring
Vehicles may contain GPS tracking for theft protection, safety, and recovery purposes. By renting the vehicle, the renter consents to this monitoring.
10. Breach of Policy
If this Vehicle Use & Road Restrictions Policy is breached:
• insurance may become invalid
• the rental agreement may be terminated immediately
• the renter may be liable for all damages, recovery costs, and losses
11. Agreement
By renting or operating a Guided NZ vehicle, the renter confirms they have read and agree to follow this Vehicle Use & Road Restrictions Policy.
